'Bristol Commercial Vehicles' was an English manufacturer of bus chassis. They were located at Brislington near Bristol. The chassis were delivered to various bodywork companies throughout the UK (and occasionally in far away places such as New Zealand). The majority of chassis received bodywork by Eastern Coach Works (E.C.W.) of Lowestoft.

Bristol Commercial Vehicles became part of British Leyland which in turn were bought out by Volvo - so Bristol buses are no longer made.

The following pictures show some of the types of Bristol bus. All are privately preserved vehicles photographed in the Summer of 2009.

The first picture shows AHU803 a Bristol L single deck bus with a rear entrance.
The second picture shows UHY360, a Bristol KSW double deck bus with a rear entrance.
The third picture shows 969EHW, a Bristol Lodekka double deck bus with rear entrance.
The fourth picture shows FHU59D, a Bristol Lodekka with forward entrance.
The fifth picture shows DAE511K, a Bristol RE with E.C.W. bodywork.
The sixth picture shows TCD481J, a Bristol RE with Marshall bodywork.
The seventh picture shows two Bristol VRs with E.C.W. double deck bodywork. These buses are both convertibles - their roofs can be removed during the summer !

The following photo shows two Bristol K buses which date from 1939.

They were both new to the Isle of Wight operator 'Southern Vectis' and CDL899 (nearest the camera) continues in service with its original owner.

The photo was taken at Newport on the Isle of Wight during October 2009.
